The Clarkston Angoras are getting healthy and the two-time defending Class 5A champs look ready to defend their title after sweeping the Top 6 spots at Arabia Mountain on Tuesday.

Clarkston was coming off a 75-point victory in the Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational Championship Division competing against some of the top schools from across Georgia and Alabama.

Senior Bineyam Tumbo won his third DeKalb race of the season as he clocked an 18:07.98 to lead the group of six consecutive Angoras to close the finish line.

Following Tumbo in order of finish were senior Bosco Hakuzimana (18:14.38), sophomore Rukundo Uwimana (18:15.13), sophomore Thomas Weldemichal (18:49.73), sophomore Ngabo Daniel (18:53.34) and junior Abdi Nasir Yahye (19:03.69).

Tucker finished second in the race with 60 points to Clarkston’s perfect score of 15 led by a trio of runners coming in behind Clarkston. Senior Ryan Wurapa (19:23.26) led the way for the Tigers in seventh followed in order by sophomores Miles Smith (19:31.86) and Ian Nuhfer (19:56.90).

Cross Keys D. Calix rounded out the Top 10 finishers with a time of 20:07.56.

Stone Mountain was third with 93 points followed by Redan (180), McNair (240) and Martin Luther King Jr. (251). Stone Mountain’s third place finish was led by sophomore Mohamed Dirie in 11th with a time of 20:38.43.

Tucker claimed the girls’ second race of the day with 31 points as the only team to qualify for the title.

Clarkston senior Azza Adam won her first ever title with a time of 25:13.77 while having three other teammates finish in the Top 10.

Tucker senior Brea Manuel finished second overall in 26:09.16 followed by Lesly Umba (30:04.11 in fourth, freshman Luma Youns (31:04.24) in sixth, sophomore Neveah Whitsel (35:24.45) in ninth and junior Taylor Smith (35:24.22) in tenth.

The Arabia Mountain Rams claimed their third team title of the season 32-51 over Lithonia in the opening boys’ race on the team’s home course.

Stephenson (109) was third and Columbia (146) was fourth.

Senior Malik Wright the Rams with a second place finish overall in 22:34.48 and the Rams swept sixth through 11th in the race.

Sophomore Sanjay Lord (23:31.35) led the Ram surge in the bottom half of the Top 10 in sixth followed by junior Sam Garrett (23:37.48), sophomore Ridge Turner (23:38.10), senior Darius Giles (23:38.72) and sophomores Thomas Douglas (24:03.31) and Elijah Bibbs (24:06.87) rounding out the top seven finishers for the Rams.

Lithonia put three runners in the Top five led by freshman Brian Chesnokov (22:57.29) in third followed by junior Zion Alexander (23:08.52) and sophomore Brison Rockcliffe (23:12.84).

Stephenson’s Ken’Daius Goodrum took home the individual title as the senior clocked a time of 21:39.28.

Southwest DeKalb (36) placed four runners in the Top 10 to outdistance Stephenson (69) and Arabia Mountain (80) in the girls’ first race of the day.

Arabia Mountain senior Sydni Rush (26:50.68) won her second consecutive individual crown with Columbia junior Franol Hulufe in second in 27:15.80.

Southwest DeKalb’s win was paced by a pair of freshmen in Evanna Green (28:22.19) crossing in third and Ashlynn Green (28:35.51) in fifth.

Junior RaeKwann Bostic (29:21.54) was eighth overall for the Lady Panthers and freshman Nya Bostic (29:30.84) was ninth.

Miller Grove had a pair of runners cross in the Top 10 led by freshman Lauren Griggs (28:25.27) in fourth and Chance Barnes (28:40.20) in sixth.

Rounding out the Top 10 was Stephenson sophomore Deanna Rawlings (29:18.99) in seventh and Cedar Grove senior Tyra Cullum (30:07.14) in tenth.

The next DCSD meet is set for September 20 at the Druid Hills Middle School course with the first race set for 5:15 pm.
