Dunwoody begins DCSD Spikefest title defense on Friday at 7:00 pm.

Defending champion and three-time Class 5A Final Four participant Dunwoody returns to defend its Gold Bracket championship from 2015 as the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) Spikefest gets underway at Chamblee and Redan on Friday evening.

The Gold Championship Bracket is being hosted by Chamblee and the Silver Bracket is being played at Redan with both brackets beginning at 5:00 pm with a pair of play-in games on Friday (Aug. 12).

Dunwoody, which is the only DCSD team to reach three consecutive state playoff Final Fours, leads a contingent seven teams in the Gold Bracket to make state playoff appearances a year ago. The Lady Wildcats open play at 7:00 pm against the Arabia Mountain-Stone Mountain winner (5:00 pm).

The 2015 runners-up Lakeside Lady Vikings are riding a 7 consecutive playoffs appearance streak and face Southwest DeKalb, the consolation bracket winner a year ago, at 7:00 pm at Chamblee. Southwest DeKalb is coming off a second consecutive state playoff appearance.

The hosts Chamblee Lady Bulldogs play the Druid Hills Lady Red Devils at 6:00 pm. Chamblee is coming off back-to-back playoff appearances and 8 of the past 11 seasons in the playoffs. Druid Hills has made 7 of the past 10 state playoffs including three consecutive.

The other 5:00 pm game pits the rebuilding Tucker Lady Tigers against the Stephenson Lady Jaguars. Tucker is sitting on a four year streak of reaching the state playoffs while Stephenson is hoping to return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2013 season.

The Tucker-Stephenson winner takes on 2015 Class 3A Final Four participant Decatur at 7:00 pm.

Redan is hosting the Silver Bracket of the Spikefest and is the only team to have reached the state playoffs last season The Lady Raiders are riding a string of four consecutive state playoff appearances.

The 5:00 pm games feature Cedar Grove against McNair and Columbia vs. Clarkston to open the Silver Bracket.

Towers against Cross Keys and Lithonia taking on Martin Luther King Jr. are the 6:00 pm games.

Miller Grove takes on the Columbia/Clarkston winner and Redan faces the Cedar Grove/McNair winner in the 7:00 pm games.

First round losers’ bracket games (2 each in the two brackets) are set for 8:00 pm.

The second round losers’ bracket games begin at 10:00 pm at both sites with the winners’ bracket second round starting at 11:00 pm.

The championship finals are scheduled for 3:30 pm at both sites.
