The No. 2 ranked Lithonia Bulldogs used a 13-0 run in the first quarter to pull away from the Redan Raiders on the way to a 78-52 Region 6-4A victory at Redan on Tuesday night.

Tremayne Anderson’s basket with 5:20 left in the first period cut Lithonia’s early 4-0 lead to 4-2 and then Lithonia’s Jacara Cross spurred the 13-0 run with back-to-back rim shaking dunks that brought the crowd to their feet.

Senior guard Rodney Chatman followed with a three-pointer from the left side and then consecutive baskets from Sydarious Stinton, Cross and Darius Wimbley to push the lead out to 17-2 with 2:51 left in the opening quarter.

Robert Hatchett hit two free throws to end the first period to give his Bulldog team a 23-4 advantage.

Cross made a steal and completed a three-point play and added another basket on an assist from Hatchett to ignite an 11-2 run to open up the second period. Stinton added a pair of baskets in the run and Redan’s Tyonn Stuckey scored the only basket in the first 4:23 of the quarter.

Leading 34-6 the Bulldogs slowed down scoring just four points the rest of the way as the Raiders caught fire to end the halve on a 15-4 run.

Jibril Wykcoff had eight points in the final 3:09 of the first half to lead the Redan rally as he swished a pair of three-pointers and Chae McLaurin had a steal for a basket and pair of free throws in the run to cut the Bulldog lead to 38-21 at the break.

Chatman had six points as he went 4 of 6 from the free throw line and Hatchett added five points in the third quarter as the Bulldogs began to pull away to a 58-35 advantage to start the fourth period of play.

Cross would finish with 21 points on the night, including seven in the final period, as the Bulldogs (3-2) kept the Raiders at bay.

Rodney Chatman joined cross in double figures on the night with 13 points and 8 rebounds while Tylon Patterson finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds on the night.

Tyonn Stuckey finished with 14 points to lead the Raiders (3-2) and Darryl Moody added 11.

Dariyon Minor scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Redan Lady Raiders to a 97-18 Region 6-4A win over the Lithonia Lady Bulldogs in the opening game at Redan on Tuesday.

Minor picked up half her points (10) in the first quarter including three consecutive baskets in one stretch as Redan jumped to a 26-2 lead in the opening period. Minor was quick up front on the press and turned three of her own steals into easy baskets.

Taylor Tucker, who finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds, hit for eight of her points in the first quarter as well as she collected four offensive rebounds against the shorter Lady Bulldogs.

Tiara Maiden had a pair of buckets in the final 1:25 to pull Lithonia within 28-6 to end the quarter.

Minor would have three steals and two assists in the first two minutes of the second quarter that led to eight points in a 10-0 run as she scored four points along with Bri’Allen McIver while Tucker went to work on the offensive glass again pulling down three more offensive boards.

Redan ended the half on a 17-0 run as Kerrigan Johnson, Jazaline Gandy and LaKeisha Ogletree each scored four points in the run.

Lithonia went the entire third quarter and over four minutes of the fourth without scoring. Johnson would hit for 10 of her 14 points in the third period including a four-point play on an intentional foul call on Lithonia as the Lady Raiders went up 80-12.

Asharia Anderson scored the lone points of the second half for Lithonia with a pair of three-pointers in the final 1:38 of the game.

LaKeisha Ogletree had 14 points and Jocelyn Small added 10 points to join Minor (20), Tucker (14) and Johnson (14) in double figures for Redan

Anderson’s six fourth quarter points led Lithonia on the night and Maiden added five points for the Lady Bulldogs.
