The Tucker Tigers’ 51-38 win over the Godby (Tallahassee) Cougars gave Georgia its only victory in the third annual Chick-Fil-A Battle of the Borders on Saturday at Hallford Stadium.

A Georgia victory looked in a danger when Godby’s Kami Daguerre recovered a Tucker (1-1) fumble at the Tucker four-yard line to set up Samondre Johnson’s touchdown for a 38-37 Godby lead with 33 seconds left in the third quarter.

Tucker’s Cameron Richardson recovered a fumbled punt by the Cougars with 10:46 to play and two plays later Chris  Broadwater went 17 yards for his second touchdown to give the Tigers the lead back with 9:52 to play. Adam Lippy added the point after kick for a 44-38 lead.

The Tiger defense forced a Godby punt and the offense took over at its own 10-yard line.

A holding call put the Tigers in a third and 18 at its own 15 when Demarko Durr got around the left side and raced 64 yards to the Godby 21. Three plays later Broadwater scored his third touchdown to go with 133 yards rushing to clinch the Tiger’s 51-38 victory.

Godby quarterback Darius Broadwell was a big key in helping the Cougars (0-1) rally twice against the Tigers after falling behind 17-6 in the first quarter. Broadwell rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns while adding a 14-yard scoring toss to Titus Fain.

Samuel Bryant added a pair of touchdowns for the Tigers to go with two other 100 yard rushers for the Tigers in Kymani Campbell (10 carries, 125 yards, 1 TD) and Demarko Durr (6 carries, 109 yards).

Cedar Grove running back Labron Morris rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns and a two-point conversion on 24 carries, including a one yard rushing score with 7:05 left in the third quarter that knotted the game at 18-18.

Hallandale’s Zach Moss then made some big plays to propel Hallandale out to a 34-18 advantage. Moss took a screen pass from Tyler Huntley 48 yards for the first score and then broke some tackles near the line scrimmage on a 21 yard touchdown run with 1:08 left in the third quarter as the lead jumped to 34-18.

Neither team could find the end zone in the fourth quarter and the game ended with Hallandale (2-0) holding on for the 34-26 win.

Tyler Huntley was 22 of 32 with three interceptions for 356 yards passing and four touchdowns to lead the Hallandale offense. Joshua Hammond was on the receiving end of three of the touchdowns with eight receptions and 172 yards.

Turnovers played a big role in the first half as Stephenson (1-1) fell behind the two-time Florida Class 5A defending champions 19-2 heading into the break.

A short punt gave the Patriots (2-0) the ball at the Stephenson 41 for their first possession of the game. Brown had passes of 8 and 16 yards to Laress Nelson to get the drive started and finished it off with his one yard sneak for the score. Stephenson blocked the point after to keep the score at 6-0 with 7:24 left in the first quarter.

Walter Eugene set up the Patriots next score drive with an interception return to the Stephenson 47 to end a potential Jaguar scoring drive. Six plays later Brown connected with Nelson for a 19 yard scoring toss for a 13-0 Patriots’ lead with 6:51 left in the first half.

The Jaguar offense turned the ball over on downs at the Patriot 17 which led to a defensive stop to force a punt. The snap went high to the Patriot punter who knocked the football out of the end zone for a safety to trim the lead to 13-2 with 1:12 left in the half.

A promising possession for the Jaguars ended badly when a Patriot defender stepped in front a Jaguar pass and returned it 60 yards for a 19-2 halftime lead.
Stephenson would get no closer than 29-8 the rest of the way as Antonio Woods broke away for a 45-yard touchdown run with 10:24 to play.

The Coconut Creek Cougars scored on a pair of big plays in the final 1:32 of the game to pull away to a 41-21 victory over the Marist War Eagles in a game that was just six points at that point.

Marist (0-1) had pulled within 27-21 on a 13 yard touchdown run by Spencer Taylor with 1:47 to play, but failed to get the onside kick attempt.

The Cougars (2-0) struck on the first play following the onside kick as quarterback Jahkari Harrison hit Trayvon Mullen over the middle for a 50-yard scoring play to extend the lead to 34-21 with 1:32 to play.

Vinjony Armisal made sure there would be no comeback by the War Eagles as he intercepted a pass and went 35 yards with 1:19 to play for the final of 41-21.

The two teams went into the half tied 14-14 as Malik Young scored twice (1 yard run, 69 yard pass play) for the Cougars and Spencer Taylor (2 yards) and Michael Addicks (3 yards with 19 seconds left in the half) for the War Eagles.

Marist came out of the half moving the ball down the field led by Addicks (28 carries, 164 yards, 1 TD). A fumble at the Coconut four-yard line ended the drive and the Cougars gained the momentum as Young scored his third touchdown of the game as the Coconut completed the 96-yard drive with 5:01 left in the third quarter for a 20-14 lead.

The lead expanded to 27-14 on a 67-yard pass from Harrison to Akai Rainford with 7:07 to play.

Harrison finished the game with 349 yards passing as he hit on 19 of 21 passes with three touchdowns.

Florida now leads the three-year series 6-4.
