Dunwoody continues to play well heading up to the 2015 GHSA State Golf Tournament as the boys’ and girls’ swept the Region 6-5A Tournament titles at Brown’s Mill Country Club.

The Wildcats had four players shoot 76 or better led by senior Marcus Byrd’s two-under par 70 which won him medalist honors for the tournament.

Senior Corey Sullivan also went under par with a 71 while senior teammate Peter Trask was just over par with a 73. Sophomore Will Bentson came in with a 78 for a school record team total of 290. The 290 breaks the previous best shot in the 2015 DeKalb County Schools Championships of 300 by the Wildcats.

Rounding out the play for Dunwoody was Tim Trembath with an 81 and Davis Brainard with an 86.

The Wildcats move on to the Class 5A State Tournament on Monday, May 18 at the Country Club of Columbus in Columbus.

Martin Luther King’s Kameron Wyatt qualified for the State Sectional on Monday, May 4 with an individual low score of even par 72 to finish third overall.

The Lady Wildcats put together a round of 302 to qualify for the state tournament on May 18 at Maple Ridge Golf Course in Columbus.

Dunwoody was led by sophomore Lauren Callahan who was low medalist with a round of 88 on the day. Sophomore Olivia Vegura finished with a 102 and Emily Feldewerth with a 110 to solidify the state tournament berth.

Region 2-6A
The Lakeside Vikings finished second in the Region 2-6A Tournament with a team total of 346 and will compete in the Class 6A Boys’ Sectional at Spring Hill Country Club in Tifton on Monday, May 4.

Tony Bryant led the Vikings with a 79 to finish second overall in the individual standings. Harris Dasher shot an 83 while Dean Pappas and Brennan Cox both shot 92 to help the Vikings into the state sectional. Vincent Bird finished the day with a 98 and Lanier Dasher a 104.

Tucker finished fifth in the team standings with a 434, but Donald Miller shot a 78 to win medalist honors in the region and a trip to the Class 6A State Tournament at the Sunset Country Club in Moultrie on Monday, May 18.

In the girls’ Region 2-6A Tournament, Tucker’s Daja Nicholson shot an individual low of 115 to lead the Lady Tigers to a tie for second with Newton with a team total of 372.

Lakeside finished fifth in the girls’ tournament with a team total of 390 led by Nia Colon’s 126.

Region 6-4A
Arabia Mountain (364) and Chamblee (433) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Region 6-4A Boy’s Tournament.

Arabia Mountain was led by Noah Kuranga with a 71 which earned him medalist honors and a trip to the Class 4A State Tournament at Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro on May 18. Nylan Washington shot an 86 to aid the Rams’ cause in region play.

Chamblee was led by Travis Anderson who shot a 92.

Arabia Mountain’s Mariah Kuranga made it a school and family sweep of the low medalist honors by shooting an 83 in the girls’ tournament. The 83 earned Kuranga a trip to the Class 4A Girls’ State Tournament at Applewood Golf Course in Keysville on May 18.

Region 4-3A
The Cedar Grove Saints put together a team total of 430 to finish third in the Region 4-3A boys’ tournament.

Anthony Lewis was the leader for the Saints with a 99 on the day.
