Six different players got in on the scoring as the Clarkston Angoras shutout the East Paulding Raiders 6-0 to advance to the second round of the Class 5A Boys’ State Soccer Playoffs on Wednesday at Hallford Stadium.

The No. 9 ranked Angoras (15-1-1) scored twice in the first 13 minutes of the game to jump out 2-0 on East Paulding (5-7-0). Musab Abdiaziz opened the scoring on an assist by Basco Hakuzimana at the 11 minute mark to give the Angoras all they would need in the game.

Two minutes later Aung Twe set up Santino Jerke for the second goal and the 2-0 advantage. The Angoras would take a 3-0 into the half as Samuel Gebremariam got an assist from Bineyam Tumbo with five minutes left in the first half.

It took Clarkston just two minutes to score in the second half as Eh Crit got the ball to Erick Arrellano for the fourth goal of the game and the 4-0 advantage.

A fifth goal came just two minutes later for the 5-0 lead as Minani Eli took a pass from Kahsay Sahlu and put the ball in the goal with 36 minutes left in the game.

Sahlu got the final score of the game with 27 minutes to play as he benefitted from Tumbo’s second assist of the game to score against East Paulding.

Clarkston goalie Cubaka Hubert had a quiet night in net with just two saves and no goals allowed in his 80 minutes defending the goal.

The Angoras move on to face No. 7 Starr’s Mill (14-4-1) in the second round with the game scheduled for 5:30 pm on Tuesday, May 5 at Hallford Stadium.

DeKalb did not fare as well in the other Class 5A boys’ play as Druid Hills and Dunwoody both dropped their first round games.

Druid Hills (11-5-3) fell out of the playoffs for the second consecutive season with a penalty kick loss after overtime. The Red Devils and Alexander (6-10-0) played to a 0-0 tie in regulation and then after 10 minutes of overtime were still knotted at 0-0. Alexander outshot Druid Hills 3-1 in the penalty kicks to pick up the victory.

Dunwoody (3-11-0) dropped a 7-2 decision to Region 5-5A No. 1 seed Lithia Springs (9-1-1).

The only other game involving a DeKalb squad pitted the Martin Luther King Jr. Lady Lions taking on Allatoona. The host team was not kind to the Lady Lions (8-7-0) who were in their first playoff since 2004 as Allatoona (11-8-0) won 10-0.

Three first round games are set for Friday (May 1) including a pair of games postponed from Wednesday.

Towers (7-6-1) travels to Augusta to face Glenn Hills at 5:30 pm in a Class 3A boys’ playoff game.

The other two games will be played at DeKalb County’s Hallford Stadium. Tucker (13-2-0) hosts Colquitt County (9-8-1) in a Class 6A boys’ playoff in the first game of the doubleheader at 5:30 pm. Cross Keys (11-3-1) entertains Fayette County (8-6-1) in Class 4A action to end the night.
