The Dunwoody Wildcats won 19 consecutive tennis matches this season to reach the Class 5A quarterfinals only to have their season end in a tough 3-2 loss to River Ridge on Tuesday at Dunwoody.

The Wildcats won at No. 2 doubles as JT Melton and Daniel Bynum improved to 8-0 on the season with a two set victory to tie the match at 1-1 after No. 1 singles player Andrea Ubezio fell in a hard fought match.

Senior Brandon Gita went out in style with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles to finish 15-0 on the season, including 10-0 at No. 3 singles.

The match was tied up a 2-2 after Will Munger and Matthew Mousouri dropped a hard fought three-set match at No. 1 doubles and it was left up to who won at No. 2 singles to see who advanced to the Final Four.

Luke Bynum dropped the first set of his match against his River Ridge counterpart in a tie-breaker, but battled back to win the second set to force the third and deciding set.

The two were all knotted a 2-2 when Bynum went down with a severe cramp and took a medical timeout. Bynum was game and pulled out one more game victory before falling in the third set.

Dunwoody finishes with a 19-1 record on the season.
