Nineteen Briarlake Elementary School students represented the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) in a statewide competition held Nov. 29 – Dec. 1 in Savannah, Ga.

Briarlake’s Jr. Beta Club placed in four categories at the 2017 Georgia Junior Beta Club Convention, which allows clubs throughout the state to showcase their skills in academic achievement, character, service, and leadership.

Six Briarlake students took home awards for placing in the following categories:

  • Pastels or Charcoals, Division 1 – McKenna Smith (1st place)
  • Sketching, Division 1 – Emerson Cowles (1st place)
  • Social Studies, Division 1, 5th Grade – Vivian Dolensky (2nd Place)
  • Book Battle, Division 1 – Jackson Holt, Vivian Dolensky, Rand Musawi (2nd place)

Each of the 19 participating students competed in the following categories:
