The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) will once again offer free summer meals to local area students.

As part of the district’s Seamless Summer Feeding Program, children aged 18 and younger will be able to obtain breakfast and lunch meals at no cost to parents or guardians beginning June 4 until June 29, 2018. All students may participate regardless of their lunch eligibility status during the school year.

Breakfast and lunch will be available Monday through Thursday at any school that hosts summer school classes. Ninety-one (91) selected school sites currently offer summer meals throughout the district. Families may visit the DCSD website to find the school near their home.

Parents and guardians are also instructed to contact their closest local summer school site for specific meal times.

DCSD will also offer summer meals on Monday through Thursday at three centrally-located sites:
•    Columbia Middle School – 3001 Columbia Drive, Decatur, Ga. 30034
•    Freedom Middle School – 505 S Hairston Road, Stone Mountain, Ga. 30083
•    Henderson Middle School – 2830 Henderson Mill Road, Atlanta, Ga. 30341

“We welcome the opportunity to provide healthy meals to the students of DeKalb County School District during the summer months. Studies have shown, nutritious meals impact a student’s well-being and academic performance,” said Dr. Connie R. Walker, DCSD’s Interim Executive Director School Nutrition Services.

The program is sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). For some students, meals consumed at school may be their only source of good nutrition. This program allows schools to continue addressing nutritional needs during the summer months.
