Updated April 24, 2017: The Wildcat Whizzes of Sagamore Hills Elementary School took home a top honor at the FIRST LEGO League Robotics World Expo on April 21-22, 2017 in Houston, Texas.
The Wildcat Whizzes received the Professionalism Award for its combination of in-depth knowledge of the challenge as well as the team’s respectful attitude and the fun they appeared to have during the event. The students competed against team from across the country as well as China, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, and Canada.
The team members include Kirsten Gabriel, Rylie Gardiner, Dorothy Baldwin, Shorani Roy, and Owen Flake.
The students worked hard in perfecting their habitat, presentation, and display board. They were tasked with researching how the honeybee has become an endangered species. While researching, the students were required to choose a habitat that served as a home to both honeybees and another animal. The students found that wasps share meadows with honeybees.
The students built a habitat that reflected their research and created a skit and presentation that showcased what they learned.
Teacher leaders Suzie Quinn, Kristen Garrett, and Barbara Dix will also attend with the financial support of the school and its PTA.

The Wildcat Whizzes of Sagamore Hills Elementary School will compete against its peers worldwide at the FIRST LEGO League Robotics World Expo on April 21-22, 2017 in Houston, Texas.
The Wildcat Whizzes are the first team in the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) to be invited to the expo. The team members include Kirsten Gabriel, Rylie Gardiner, Dorothy Baldwin, Shorani Roy, and Owen Flake.
The students have been working really hard perfecting their habitat, presentation, and display board. They were tasked with researching how the honeybee has become an endangered species.
