Middle School basketball got underway on Saturday. Week 1 results and Week 2 schedule are below.

The 2019 DeKalb County Middle School basketball season got underway last Saturday as teams hit the court against non-region opponents to open the season.

A new champion is assured in boys’ play as Renfroe withdrew from play this season and undefeated champ Chapel Hill Lady Panthers were knocked off 25-24 by the Redan Lady Raiders to begin the new season.

Boys’ Recaps
Henderson 41, Stone Mountain 16
The Henderson Cougars used a balanced scoring attack to roll past Stone Mountain 41-16 to win their home opener under new coach Jameyan Smith. Ethan Sams, David Jones and Sebastian Reed led the Cougars with eight points each in the win.

Druid Hills 49, Peachtree 24
Idan Azani hit for 16 points to lead the Druid Hills Dragons to a 49-24 season opening win over the Peachtree Patriots at Druid Hills. Josiah Lawson had nine points and David Sledge hit for seven more for Druid Hills. Peachtree earned a split with a close 22-20 win over Druid Hills in the girls’ game.

Cedar Grove 38, Salem 28
The Cedar Grove Saints traveled to Salem to knock off the Lions 38-28 in the two teams’ season opener on Saturday. Jaylen Adside scored 12 points and Joshua Daniels added 11 for the Saints with Alvin Houston chipping in seven more. Salem earned a split with a 39-14 win over Cedar Grove in girls’ action.

Henderson 61, Stone Mountain 5
The Henderson Lady Cougars started a home gym sweep by taking down the Stone Mountain Lady Pirates 61-5 on Saturday. Adia Bouldin hit for a game-high 14 points to lead Henderson with Sierra Burns adding nine and Sybil Thomas and Lelia Mejil with six points each. Ford scored all five of Stone Mountain’s points.

Miller Grove 44, Bethune 7
The Miller Grove Lady Wolverines took their home opener 44-7 over the Bethune Lady Lions to start a doubleheader sweep for Miller Grove. Lindsey Myles piled in 19 points to lead miller Grove and Brooklyn Scrubb added 10. The Wolverines defeated Bethune 43-30 in the boys’ game.

Lithonia 28, Columbia 14
Laila Williams put down 16 points to lead the Lithonia Lady Bulldogs to a 28-14 win over the Columbia Lady Eagles to win their home opener. Daiyah Ruger hit for seven points and Kamri Gilbert had five points and several steals with great play on the floor for Columbia. The Eagles made a split on the night with a thrilling 32-31 win over the Bulldogs in boys’ play.
