Miller Grove picked up its seventh victory in 10 games against Lakeside with the block of a last second field goal to seal an 18-16 victory at Avondale Stadium.

The Vikings (1-3) pulled within 18-16 on a pick-six by Demonte Pressley with 11:36 to play in the back and forth game.
Miller Grove was hanging on to the two-point lead throughout most of the fourth quarter when the Vikings drove down the field to set up for a game-winning field goal. The Wolverines’ defense came up with the big block to get the victory.
The two teams had see-sawed back and forth throughout the first half with Lakeside taking a 3-0 in the first quarter on a Matthew Franklin field goal. The Wolverines answered on a six-yard touchdown run by Charlie Cooper to go ahead 6-3.
Lakeside answered with a one-yard TD run by Max Guggemos to go up 10-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Shawn Collins connected with Kameron Williams on a 10-yard touchdown pass to give the Wolverines a 12-10 lead at the half. The pair connected again early in the third quarter for a 20-yard scoring pass to increase the lead to 18-10.
Cedar Grove 41, Lovett 14
The No. 1 ranked Cedar Grove Saints rallied from a 14-6 first half deficit to knock off Lovett 41-14 in a Region 5-3A opener for both teams on Friday night a Godfrey Stadium.
Lovett was holding on to a 7-6 lead heading into the second quarter as the Saints got an 8-yard touchdown run by Darrell Neal (22-185 yards, 1 TD). Lovett then went up 14-6 early in the second quarter, but it would be their last score of the night.
Quarterback Xavier Dennis pulled the Saints within 14-12 and on Lovett’s next possession Kortney Cox picked off a tipped pass and returned it 21-yards to put the Saints (4-0) up 20-14 following Neal’s two-point conversion run.
Dennis hit Jadon Haselwood for a 6-yard touchdown pass and Neal again added the two-point conversion run for a 28-14 halftime lead for Cedar Grove.
Dennis added his second touchdown and Chevron Wright (10-95 yards, 1 TD) tacked on a scoring run of his own in the third quarter to make the final of 41-14.
The win put the defending state champions Saints in a tie for first in the region standings at 1-0 along with McNair, Pace Academy and Westminster.

Stephenson 14, Lovejoy 7
The Stephenson Jaguars evened their record at 2-2 with a Region 4-6A opening victory over the Lovejoy Wildcats at Hallford Stadium on Friday night.

Darren Parker had a one-yard touchdown run to put the Jaguars up 7-0. Deondre Jackson made it 14-0 with 1:20 left in the first half on his 21-yard touchdown run.
Lovejoy closed to within 14-7 at the half, but the Jaguars continued to play tough defense in the second half to seal the region victory.
Tucker 42, Jonesboro 7
Tauren Taylor rushed for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns on eight carries to lead the Tigers to a 42-7 Region 4-6A victory at Adams Stadium on Friday night.
Jonesboro tied the game at 7-7 before the Tigers (3-1) exploded for 35 consecutive points to end the half up 42-7. One of the big plays came from Malachi Buckner who returned an errant lateral for a touchdown to make it 21-7.
M.L. King 29, Mundy’s Mill 22
The Martin Luther King Jr. Lions joined Stephenson and Tucker at 1-0 atop the Region 4-6A standings with a 29-22 as four different players scored rushing touchdowns.
Demario Benton, Marchellious Lockett, Jaden Wilkins and Jacobi Hayes all scored touchdowns for the Lions (2-2). Lockett and Haynes both had two-point conversion runs.
