The first round of the 2017 DCSD Middle School Basketball Championships featured all eight No. 1 seeds advancing to the quarterfinals.

In boy’s action three of the four No. 2 seeds advance with victories with No. 3 seeded Stephenson (11-3) knocking off No. 2 Druid hills 58-51.

Stephenson will travel to No. 1 seed Chapel Hill for an 11:15 am date with the Panthers (12-2) who claimed a 46-34 win over Tucker (7-8). It will be a rematch of the season opener won 43-39 by Stephenson.

No. 2 seed Renfroe (12-2) knocked off Cedar Grove (6-9) 49-30 to earn a date against No. 1 seed Lithonia (12-2), a 39-26 winner over Henderson (4-11), at Miller Grove with an 11:15 am tipoff. It will be the first meeting this season between the two 12-game winners.

Champion (13-1), the No. 1 seed, knocked off McNair (4-11) 70-39 and hosts No. 2 seed Miller Grove (11-3), a 44-34 winner over Peachtree (5-9) at 11:15 am on Saturday. It will also be the first meeting of the season between the two programs.

Salem (8-7) which won its playoff game with Cedar Grove to earn the No. 2 seed out of Region 4 picked up a 37-33 victory over Redan (6-7) to advance to the quarterfinals at Chamblee. The Bulldogs (13-1), a 39-30 victor over Bethune (3-11), host the game at 11:15 am on Saturday. The two teams have not met on the court this season.

The girls’ bracket held true to form to the seeding with all the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds coming out victorious on Wednesday night.

No. 2 seed Henderson (9-5) won 35-29 over Bethune (8-6) to advance to the quarterfinals at Chapel Hill. No. 1 seed Chapel Hill (14-0) remained perfect on the season with a 61-13 win over Tucker (5-10). It will be the first meeting this season for the two schools with tipoff set at 10 am.

Miller Grove (13-1) defeated Druid Hills (6-8) 49-11 and hosts Renfroe (9-5), a 19-6 winner over McNair, on Saturday at 10:00 am in the first meeting of the season between the teams.

Champion continues its undefeated streak at 14-0 with a 39-12 victory over Columbia (3-12) in first round play. Champion hosts Stephenson (11-3), a 30-25 winner over Peachtree (8-6), in a 10:00 am game at Champion on Saturday.

The final girls’ quarterfinal is set for 10:00 am at Chamblee on Saturday as the Lady Bulldogs (13-1), 34-28 winners over Lithonia (7-8), host Cedar Grove (8-6), which defeated Stone Mountain (6-8) 43-13 to advance.

Semifinal play will be on Wednesday, Feb. 8 with Cedar Grove and Stephenson Middle Schools playing hosts to one boys’ and one girls’ game each. Cedar Grove will be hosting the consolation and championship games on Saturday, Feb. 11.
