Saturday’s play-in and playoff game results are in and the brackets for the main draw of the 2017 DCSD Middle School Basketball Championships is set for play on Wednesday at eight host sites.
Chamblee, Cedar Grove, Champion, Lithonia, Miller Grove, Renfroe, Chapel Hill and Druid Hills will each host two games on Wednesday (Feb. 1) beginning at 5:00 pm (girls) with the boys to follow at 6:15 pm.
Game 1 in boys’ play-in action had Henderson (4-10) defeating Freedom (3-11) 51-34 to advance to take on Region 3 No. 1 seed Lithonia (11-2) at Lithonia at 6:15 pm on Wednesday.
Bethune (3-10) defeated Sequoyah (0-14) 71-6 in Game 2 of the play-in round for boys. Bethune travels Chamblee to face Region 1, No. 1 seed Chamblee (12-1) at 6:15 pm on Wednesday.
McNair (4-9) upended Stone Mountain (1-12) 53-38 to advance to the main draw on Wednesday at Champion against the Region 2, No. 1 seeded Crusaders (12-1) at 6:00 pm
Game 4 of the boys’ play-in round was a tight one as Tucker (7-7) knocked off Columbia (2-12) 44-41 to advance. The Tigers travel to Chapel Hill (11-2) to take on the Panthers at 6:00 pm on Wednesday.
There was a playoff game for seeding in Region 4 as Salem and Cedar Grove who were tied at 6-7 overall and 4-4 in the region met at Cedar Grove to decide the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. Salem (7-7) won the game 41-29 over Cedar Grove (6-8) to capture the No. 2 seed with Cedar Grove dropping to the No. 3.
Salem is the home team against Region 2, No. 3 seed Redan (6-6) in the 6:15 pm game at Cedar Grove on Wednesday. Cedar Grove must travel to Region 2, No. 2 seed Renfroe (11-2) on Wednesday at 6:15 pm.
Only two play-in games were played on the girls’ side as Druid Hills (6-8) and Columbia (3-11) both advanced via forfeit. Druid Hills plays at 5:00 pm at Miller Grove against the No. 1 seeded Lady Wolverines (12-1). Columbia takes on undefeated Region 2, No. 1 seed Champion (13-0) at Champion at 5:00 pm on Wednesday.
Game 2 of the play-in round had Lithonia (7-7) defeating Sequoyah 29-13 to advance. Lithonia travels to Chamblee (12-1), the Region 1, No. 1 seed, for a 5:00 pm game.
Tucker (5-9) defeated Salem (2-12) 37-20 to advance into the main draw against undefeated Chapel Hill (13-0) in a 5:00 pm game at Chapel Hill.
