The Stephenson Lady Jaguars improved to 6-0 in Region 4-6A play as they held off a strong comeback by the Tucker Lady Tigers in a tight 53-50 victory at Stephenson on Tuesday night.

A three-pointer by Jasoni Buchanan with 6:38 to play in the game gave Stephenson (6-4, 6-0) a 12-point lead (46-34) and the Lady Jaguars looked to be cruising to a win.

Tucker (8-2, 4-2) had other ideas as Morgan Collins heated up from outside hitting the first of three three-pointers in the next four minutes, including the game tying three with 2:36 to play, in 14-2 run that knotted the two teams at 48-48. Bria Bass added a three-pointer and Jemese Davis hit a layup in the run.

Naomi Holloway hit two of four free throws in a 20 second time span to give Stephenson a 50-48 advantage with 2:16 to play.

Bass tied the game with a pair of free throws with 2:13 to play and the two teams were knotted at 50-50.

The two teams each had a pair of turnovers as the clock went under a minute to play. Buchanan rebounded a Stephenson miss and was fouled with 22.3 seconds to play. She hit one of the two charity shots to give Stephenson at 51-50 advantage.

Tucker went down the floor, but had to foul Holloway after a pair of missed shots with 4.7 seconds to play. Holloway sank both free throws to make it a 53-50 lead.

The Lady Tigers tried to get up the court for a chance to tie the game, but the Stephenson defense slowed them enough to let the clock run out sealing the 53-50 region victory.

Holloway finished with a game high 22 points in the win while Jasoni Buchanan contributed 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Davis hit for 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Tucker while Bria Bass added 15 points and Morgan Collins 13.

Jevon Tatum and Joshua Cammon helped the Tucker Tigers lead from start to finish on the way to a 65-53 Region 4-6A road victory over the Stephenson Jaguars on Tuesday night.

Tatum had the hot hand in the first quarter scoring 11 of the Tigers (5-3, 5-1) 19 points on the way to a 19-15 advantage. Tatum broke a 2-2 tied with a pull up jumper in the line to give Tucker the lead for good at 4-2 with 5:56 to play in the first quarter.

He would go on to hit three treys from behind the arc to keep the Tigers out front heading into the second quarter up 19-15.

The Tucker guard opened the second quarter with a drive to the basket and his drive with 4:02 left in the half would extend the lead to 11 (29-18).

Cammon finished the half at the foul line after being fouled on a three-point attempt. He hit all three foul shots to send the Tigers into the break, up 34-25.

The two teams matched points in the third quarter scoring 10 each to head into the final quarter with the Tigers holding their lead at nine (44-35).

Tatum drove to the basket to open the final period of play and Nathaniel Ogbu took pass on the way to the basket from Nicholas Watson for a slam to increase the Tucker lead to 13 (48-35) with 6:58 reaming in the game.

Cammon hit an old fashioned three-point play and Trevon Flowers got inside three consecutive trips down the floor to push the Tigers’ lead to 17 (57-40) with 3:49 left in the game.

Watson would hit a three-pointer and Cammon added another three-point play to stem a Stephenson rally led by Bryce Latimer. Latimer would hit for eight points to cut the lead to 60-50 with 1:40 to play before Cammon’s three-point play with 57 seconds made it a 13-point advantage.

Tatum finished with 19 points and Cammon added 14 points and 9 rebounds for Tucker while Ogbu contributed 10 to reach double figures.

The loss was the first in region play for the Jaguars, now 6-5 overall and 5-1 in the region. Latimer hit for a game-high 23 points to lead the Jaguars.
