The DCSD Middle School Football Trail to the Title Championship features two undefeated teams for the fourth consecutive season as the Stephenson Jaguars (8-0) and Tucker Tigers (8-0) are set to square off on Saturday at 10:0 am at Godfrey Stadium.

Tucker advanced to the championship game for the fourth consecutive year with a 25-12 semifinal victory over two-time defending champ Cedar Grove (5-3), the team they lost to in the past two championship games.

Brandon Clark came up big on offense for the Tigers as he reached the end zone twice with the football for the Tigers.

Two more rushing touchdowns were added as Zion Alexander and Randy Britt each scored as the Tigers built a 25-6 lead in the game. Cameron Russell kicked a PAT in the game for the Tigers.

The Tiger defense played tough for a second consecutive game allowing just one touchdown through three quarters as the offense built the lead. Linebackers Randy Britt and Keeman Hayes and defensive linemen Keondre Scott and Dawson Rivers anchored the Tiger defense.

Tucker is looking for its second title in four seasons and has now won at least eight games in four consecutive seasons of play. Tucker won its lone title in 2013 with an exciting 22-20 victory over Chapel Hill to complete a perfect 9-0 season. The Tigers were runners-up the past two seasons with losses of 20-14 (OT) and 22-0 to Cedar Grove.

The Tigers now own four consecutive region titles with the 2016 crown which is tied with Cedar Grove and Stephenson for second behind Bethune’s five (2008-2012).

Stephenson 13, Chapel Hill 6
The Stephenson Jaguars advanced to the championship game for the sixth time (a DCSD record) in 13 seasons with a hard fought 13-6 victory over Region 4 champ Chapel Hill (6-2).

Joe Jackson scored the go-ahead touchdown on a quarterback sneak in the fourth quarter. The scoring play was set up by Devinn Robinson’s 55-yard run. Emmanuel Perez Rios made the PAT for the 13-6 advantage.

Stephenson had struck first in the game on a 45-yard pass play from Jackson to Bradley Favor to go up 6-0.

The Panthers answered at the beginning of the second quarter as Damion Fitzpatrick got loose on a 48-yard run to the end zone to send the game into the half knotted at 6-6.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter as the defenses both pitched a shutout into the fourth quarter to keep the score at 6-6.

Stephenson returns to the championship game for the first time since a 12-8 loss to Lithonia in the 2012 title game, the Jaguars only loss in the championship game. Stephenson leads the county with four Trail to the Title Championships (2004, 2005, 2009 and 2011).

The 2016 championship game is the first Trail to the Title playoff meeting between Stephenson and Tucker.
